Departing Carcassonne

Carcassonne's UNESCO citadel makes a spectacular backdrop. On the way to Foix several second- and third-category climbs can splinter the peloton.

A day for the break

With no summit finish but plenty of climbing, this is a classic day for a strong breakaway. Attackers and classics specialists will sense an opportunity.
