Vingegaard completes the set: all three Grand Tours
With overall victory at the 2026 Giro d'Italia, Jonas Vingegaard became the eighth rider ever to win the Giro, the Tour and the Vuelta. What makes this achievement so special.
An exclusive club
Only seven riders before him — Merckx, Hinault, Contador and Nibali among them — had ever won the Giro, the Tour and the Vuelta. Chris Froome was the last to complete the set, in 2018. Eight years later, Jonas Vingegaard adds his name to that list.
Five stage wins as proof
This wasn't a victory built on grit alone: Vingegaard won five stages, four of them in the mountains. From the Blockhaus to Piancavallo he was the strongest on every key day — a dominance rarely seen this complete.
What this means for the rest of 2026
With the Giro already banked, Vingegaard went for the Giro–Tour double, though he ultimately had to leave the 2026 Tour de France early. That doesn't change what he'd already achieved in May, though: the full set of Grand Tours, a feat only a handful of riders in history have managed.
